Kerala Assembly adopts resolution accusing Center of discriminating against State

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution urging the Union government to end what it termed continued “neglect towards the state and to accept its rightful demands".

The resolution, moved by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, was adopted by the House in the absence of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) opposition.

While presenting the resolution, Vijayan alleged that the Centre was discriminating against Kerala and ignoring its development needs. He said the alleged neglect was evident from the absence of any mention of setting up an AIIMS or implementing a high-speed rail corridor in the state in the Union Budget, despite long-pending demands.

The Chief Minister further claimed that the Union government was imposing financial restrictions on Kerala and curtailing funds that were rightfully due to the state.

Vijayan also alleged that the Centre failed to extend adequate financial assistance for the rehabilitation of disaster-hit areas in Wayanad.
