Palakkad: Minister AK Balan has condemned the news reports which claimed CPM included his wife’s name in the list of probable candidates. Addressing the media here on Wednesday, the minister dismissed the reports and stated that such news is scripted by a centre.

“The reports on my wife’s candidature in the assembly polls are baseless. Some media personnel collected the script regarding this news from a centre. Don’t think that AK Balan is clueless about it,” said the minister.

“We did not hold any talks related to my wife’s candidature. I don’t need to disclose the names of the people who are considered for probable candidates. I’m not interested to disclose the details of the discussions inside the party,” declared the minister.

On the other day, CPM district secretariat meeting included name of Dr PK Jameela, wife of AK Balan, in the list of probable candidates. But it is learned that the district secretariat expressed disagreement over Jameela’s candidature.

PK Sasi, MB Rajesh, CK Chathunni, VK Chandran and V Chenthamarakshan had opposed her candidature, as per reports.

Dr PK Jameela is a retired director of health department. She is also the daughter of former CPM central committee member and Rajya Sabha MP PK Kunjachan. At present, she is leading the government's 'Aardram' project.
