Kerala suspends ADGP MR Ajith Kumar over Nava Kerala Yatra assault case

Thiruvananthapuram: ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar has been suspended. The action has been taken for tampering with the report in the case where KSU-Youth Congress workers were beaten up in Alappuzha during the previous government's tenure.
During the time when Pinarayi Vijayan was the Chief Minister, KSU-Youth Congress workers who came to protest in Alappuzha during the Navakerala Yatra were beaten up by his security officers. Those who were beaten up included A.D. Thomas, the current Alappuzha MLA. Visuals of this incident had also surfaced.
The complaint was that Ajith Kumar, who was the ADGP in charge of law and order at the time, intervened to tamper with this case. There was no significant progress in this complaint during the previous government's tenure.

However, after the V.D. Satheesan government came to power, a reinvestigation was announced in the case and SP A.P. Shoukathali was appointed as the investigating officer.
Subsequently, the SIT, headed by Shoukathali, conducted an investigation and submitted a report.

The report states that Ajith Kumar intervened by using some subordinate officers to tamper with the case. After receiving legal advice on this report, the State Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar handed over the report to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.
