Thrissur: Sujatha, a native of Thrissur, has cleared the LLB examination with 64 marks at the age of 47. She is all set to enrol as a lawyer after overcoming the adversities in life.

Sujatha, daughter of Vallissery native Edathedath Raman passed the SSLC examination with 495 marks in 1989. Even after scoring good marks, she was forced to quit higher studies and turned a coolie worker at a tile factory due to financial issues.

In an unexpected moment, she resumed her studies after 25 years. Now, she is all set to enrol her name as a lawyer.

Sujata is the fourth one among the 5 daughters of Raman and Vilasini who were coolie workers.

“My father became ill when I was studying pre-degree at Thrissur Kerala Varma College. Though I passed pre-degree with second class, I failed to continue my studies. Later, I decided to work at a tile factory close to my house. I also worked in a timber factory. The income from the job helped me to raise money for the marriage of my four sisters and construct a house,” Sujatha narrated her life.

A turning point occurred in her life when she met Adv. Manoj Krishnan for a case relating to her property. The lawyer who accidentally saw Sujatha’s certificates encouraged her to resume her studies.

Vattakuzhi Devassy, the owner of the tile factory where Sujatha was employed also helped her to join LLB.

Along with the job, Sujata prepared for the LLB entrance examination. After clearing the exam, she obtained a merit seat at AIM Law College, a self-financing institution in Poyya.

Even after turning an LLB student, Sujata continued her job at the tile factory and timber factory during the holidays.

“My classmates and teachers supported me a lot after realising my problems,” said Sujata.

Now, after completing online classes and passing the exams, Sujata is excited to start a new career as a lawyer.
