Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Loknath Behera stated that though Kerala is targeted by IS terrorists, the state is completely safe. He also pointed out IS recruitments in Kerala.

“They recruited Keralites during 2016-17. But later we prevented such attempts of the terrorist organisation. They are likely to explore the chances of continuing recruitment as Kerala tops in education. But our police system is well prepared to counter such moves,” said Behera while addressing the media ahead of his retirement.

Terrorist organizations aim to recruit members from educated and developed places. Mumbai, Delhi and Kerala are examples of this. But Kerala police managed to foil such attempts. Love Jihad is only a colloquial use. Marriage between people who belong to different communities is not a new thing in our society. So, there is no need to politicise such marriages, he added.

He also explained the controversial Jesna missing case. “Police have done maximum to trace Jesna,” he said.

Compared to the North Indian States, Kerala got the best police force. In a year, Uttar Pradesh police registers 4 lakh FIRs. But in Kerala, our police register over 6 lakh FIRs annually. In Kerala, convicts get punished in 93 percent of cases. Meanwhile, CBI ensures punishments to culprits in 70 to 80 percent of cases.
