Kochi: AICC general secretary KC Venugopal on Monday alleged that the case against KPCC chief K Sudhakaran was part of a conspiracy aimed at eliminating political opponents. Speaking at a press conference in Kochi, the leader opined that CPM state secretary MV Govindan would have wished to trap Sudhakaran in the case.

“The Kerala police have the responsibility to take action on Govindan’s vile remarks, over the confidential statement given by the survivor before the magistrate as per CrPC section 164, in accordance with law. Confidential statements given under section 164 are not supposed to be wrongly quoted or revealed anywhere else,” Venugopal said.

Further, the MP took a jibe at Govindan and said, “If the Congress’ state president is attacked like this, then don’t think that the Congressmen in Kerala will sit idle.”

Meanwhile, earlier on Monday, Sudhakaran slammed Govindan for his remarks over antique dealer Monson Mavunkal-linked POCSO case and called the leader an “indecent party secretary.”

Taking to Facebook, Sudhakaran took a jibe at Govindan and wrote, “I would like to tell you that you should at least show the dignity of your position. But if you think about it, then the quality of that position is itself what you are showing now!”
