Karakonam scam: ED files charge sheet

Kochi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken a major step forward in the investigation of the Karakonam Medical College corruption case by filing a charge sheet. Among the four accused are Dharmaraj Rasalam, former president of the CSI Church and Bennet Abraham. The charge sheet was filed at the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court at Kaloor.
At the centre of the allegations is the Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College, with former Church secretary T T Praveen, also listed as accused. Earlier in the investigation, both Medical College Director Bennet Abraham and T T Praveen were subjected to questioning by the Directorate several times over bribery and money laundering issues within Karakonam Medical College. The interrogations took place at the Kochi ED office.
The complaint alleges transactions worth Rs 500 crores. Prior to the involvement of the ED, the case had been under investigation by the crime branch.
