Kannur: YC protest turns violent, police accused of stamping on woman worker's hair, ripping clothes

Kannur: A violent clash broke out during the Kannur Collectorate march carried out by Youth Congress workers on Friday to protest against the arrest of its state president Rahul Mamkootathil. It is alleged that a female Youth Congress worker’s clothes were torn and that police personnel stomped on her hair with their boot. Police used water cannons at the activists and arrested and removed some of the protestors from the scene. 

Although the female party worker reportedly cried out that her clothes were torn and that her hair was trapped under a police person’s boot, the police paid no heed. Harsh criticism is being raised against the police action. She also reportedly injured her hand and claimed that police ignored her cries of pain and refused to let go.

A large police contingent was stationed in front of the Collectorate. The police fired at the protesters twice with water cannons as they attempted to enter the Collectorate premises.
