Kannur: Former Kannur district president P P Divya, arrested in connection with the suicide of ADM Naveen Babu, has been remanded to police custody. The Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court approved the request by the special investigation team, allowing Divya to remain in custody until 5 pm.

The investigation team initially sought two days of custody, but the court approved custody only until 5 pm on Friday.

With the approval of the custody application, Divya's bail plea will now be considered only at a later date, likely next Monday.

The police registered a case on October 17 on charges of abetment to suicide based on a complaint by Naveen Babu’s brother K Praveen Babu. Following this, Divya, who had resigned from her post as district panchayat president and gone into hiding, submitted an anticipatory bail application, which was dismissed on Tuesday morning by Thalassery Sessions Court Judge K T Nisar Ahmed.
