Kanhirapoil Govt School serves chicken mandi to 600 students and staff

Kasaragod: After the Onam exams, celebrations, and holidays, students at the Government High School, Kanhirapoil, were in for a special treat, chicken mandi for lunch.

The feast was arranged for over 450 students from pre-primary to class 10, along with 24 teachers, four non-teaching staff, PTA and MPTA members, and local residents, altogether feeding around 600 people on Thursday afternoon.

The preparation was a collective effort by the teachers, School Management Committee (SMC), and the PTA. About 70 kilograms of chicken and 80 kilograms of rice were used, with the remaining ingredients sourced through contributions from the community. PTA vice-president Nara Shafeek and his wife Suneera led the cooking, supported by PTA president V. Mukesh, SMC chairman K. Vijesh, MPTA president C. Mallika, headmistress K. Sreekala, and several teachers and PTA members.

During Onam, the school had already served a traditional feast complete with payasam, and prior to that, fried rice was on the menu. With the addition of chicken mandi now, the students could hardly contain their excitement.

PTA president Mukesh announced that going forward, students can look forward to chicken mandi or chicken biryani once a month. “The children loved it, those who had it for the first time and those who were already familiar with the taste all said the same thing, the mandi was superb. Thanks to the minister for making this possible,”

Headmistress Sreekala said the menu change had brought immense joy to both students and parents. She assured that efforts would continue to bring more variety and richness to the school’s meals in the coming days.
