Kanathil Jameela to be laid to rest today: Public homage and hartal in Koyilandy

Kozhikode: The funeral of MLA Kanathil Jameela will be held with official honours at 5 pm on Tuesday at the Kuniyil Kadavu Juma Masjid cemetery.

The body was received by the family and CPM leadership from the private hospital in the morning and taken to the CPM district committee office at 8 am. Kerala Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer, Ministers TP Ramakrishnan, Dr R Bindu, PA Muhammed Riyas and AK Saseendran are expected to pay the last respects.

CPM leaders EP Jayarajan, KK Shailaja and PK Sreemathy will also be in attendance.

The funeral procession will leave the district committee office for Koyilandy at 11 am, where a public homage will be held at the Town Hall. Another public homage is scheduled for 1:30 pm at the Miami Convention Centre in Thalakulathur Panchayat, where the MLA’s residence is located. The body will then be taken to Jameela’s home in Choyikulam, Atholi, at 2:30 pm.

A hartal will be observed in the Koyilandy Assembly constituency, organised by the LDF, from 2 pm to 5 pm on Tuesday.

A silent procession and condolence meeting are scheduled in Koyilandy on Wednesday at 4:30 pm. Shops in the town will remain closed until the afternoon on Tuesday, although hotels and cool bars will continue to operate.
