Kamal Haasan mourns MT: ‘I do not want to say goodbye Sir, forgive me’

Actor Kamal Haasan remembers the late renowned writer MT Vasudevan Nair, acknowledging the massive role MT played in inspiring his love for cinema. Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Kamal also expressed that MT's literary legacy would live on in the minds of people for many years to come.

“If my love and passion for cinema were a small lamp, it was the film Nirmalyam that turned it into a fire. As far as I am concerned, Satyajit Ray, MT Sir, Girish Karnad, and Shyam Benegal, though born in different places, are all brothers. It is not just MT who has succeeded, but also the Malayalis, the world of Malayalam literature, and cinema. MT Sir will live with us and beyond us for many more centuries through his literature. I do not want to say goodbye, Sir; Forgive me.”

MT Vasudevan Nair passed away at 10 pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. He was surrounded by his daughter Aswathi, son-in-law Srikanth, and grandson Madhav at the time of his death. A two-day mourning period has been declared in the state to mourn his loss.

Actor Kamal Haasan also shared a heartfelt mourning note on his X account, expressing his sorrow over the death of MT Vasudevan Nair. In his post, Kamal acknowledged the profound impact MT had on his cinematic journey and emphasised that the writer's legacy would endure for centuries through his literature.
