TDB president K Jayakumar to meet CM over ‘non-cooperation’ by Devaswom minister’s office

Thiruvananthapuram: Travancore Devaswom Board president K Jayakumar will meet Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Tuesday to express his dissatisfaction over what he describes as a lack of cooperation from the Devaswom Minister and the department.

Jayakumar is expected to tell the Chief Minister that the Board cannot function effectively without the government’s support.

The disagreement stems from criticism surrounding the expansion work to increase the capacity of the Aravana plant at Sabarimala. According to Jayakumar, the government and the Chief Minister were already aware of the plant’s operations and the related developments. He has expressed his disappointment over what he describes as unnecessary controversies being created by the minister’s office.

Jayakumar is expected to brief the Chief Minister on the measures taken at Sabarimala and explain the Board’s position on the issues.

He has made it clear that he is prepared to resign if he does not have the government's support or if the government wants him to step down. While Jayakumar does not believe he should resign on his own over the issue, he has indicated that he may take a strong decision if the government wants him to leave.
