Jailed ex-DGP Tomin Thachankary shifted to prison hospital following physical discomfort

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Director General of Police (DGP) Tomin J Thachankary, who was incarcerated following his conviction in an illegal assets case, has been shifted to the hospital block of Poojappura Central Jail after reporting physical discomfort.

Prison authorities immediately transferred him to the medical ward after he alerted them to his ill health. Thachankary was brought to Poojappura Central Jail on Thursday night following the court's sentencing.

A prison doctor is scheduled to examine him on Friday morning to assess his condition and determine the appropriate line of treatment. The medical officer will decide whether inpatient treatment within the jail hospital ward is sufficient or if he requires referral to the General Hospital or Government Medical College Hospital.

Prison sources indicated that there is no cause for alarm regarding his health, and he currently remains under observation in the hospital block.

Thachankary, who previously served as the state's senior police officer, was convicted and sentenced by the Kottayam Vigilance Court for accumulating wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income while holding official positions.

During court proceedings, when the presiding judge inquired if he had anything to submit regarding the sentence, Thachankary cited health issues, stating that he lived alone and had experienced chest pain two days prior to the verdict.
