Kozhikode: The residence of Muslim League leader M K Muneer, located in Nadakkavu here is facing the threat of bank attachment. Muneer, the Koduvally MLA, carries an outstanding liability of ₹58 lakh on the property, named ‘Crescent House’, situated in East Nadakkavu. Under a one-time settlement scheme, the amount was previously fixed at ₹48 lakh; however, he was unable to clear this payment. Consequently, bank authorities have issued a warning that if the arrears are not settled by March 31, they will proceed with legal measures, including property seizure.

Muneer had availed a loan of approximately ₹70 lakh from the Kozhikode Town Service Co-operative Bank 10 years ago for the renovation of this house. The liability accumulated after he defaulted on the phased repayments. The house was originally built by Muneer’s father, the late former Chief Minister C H Mohammed Koya, and was later renovated by Muneer.

For the Muslim League in Kozhikode, this location functioned more as an unofficial party headquarters than just a private residence. The news that the home of Muneer—who has served multiple terms as an MLA and Minister—is facing foreclosure has caused major shock. Previously, another property belonging to Muneer in Kozhikode’s Jaffer Khan Colony had faced a similar threat, which was eventually resolved by selling the house to clear the debts. Years later, another of his residences finds itself in a similar predicament.
