‘It’ll send a wrong message to society’: Kerala Government opposes bail for TP murder case convict

New Delhi: The Kerala government has opposed granting bail to Jyothi Babu, sentenced in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case. The state filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, arguing that bail should not be granted to a person convicted of the crime and that it would send a “wrong message to society”. Jyothi Babu is a former local committee member of the CPM in Kunnothuparambu.

Babu had approached the Supreme Court seeking bail on medical grounds. Following this, the court had directed that all details of his medical treatment be submitted. On this basis, the Kerala government filed the affidavit, confirming that Babu is receiving the necessary medical care and that all procedures are being followed by the prison authorities, as highlighted by the state’s standing counsel, Nishe Rajan Shankar.

Earlier, K K Rema, wife of TP, had accused in court that the government was colluding with the convicts in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case and was not opposing even the convicts’ bail. The state’s counsel had countered that Rema was making baseless allegations. Now, the Kerala government formally opposed Jyothi Babu’s bail by filing the affidavit in the Supreme Court.
