Groom in Canada, bride in Bangaluru tie knot via online; relatives watch ceremony virtually

Tirurangadi (Malappuram): An Islamic wedding took place on Sunday with the bride in Bengaluru, groom in Canada and their relatives in Malappuram and Wayanad amid the COVID restrictions. Many people from all over the world witnessed the wedding ceremony through Zoom app. In contrast to the traditional rituals, no Muslim cleric was present to coordinate the ceremony.

Atheef Abdurahman, son of Parappangadi Palathingal native M M Akbar and Laila, and Nyla Jasmine, daughter of Wayanad Chelode native T K Abdunnasar and Hamelia, tied the knot through a virtual ceremony. Atheef is a Business Management student at North Bay in Ontario, Canada. Nyla Jasmine is an Interior Architecture student in Bengaluru.

After the marriage proposal came, the bride and groom met and talked to each other via online. The wedding ceremony was held virtually due to COVID restrictions. They sent a digital invitation letter through WhatsApp along with the link to watch the Nikah ceremony via online.

The nuptial rituals started at 9.30 am IST. The bride's father at Bengaluru informed the groom in Canada as per Islamic rituals that he has given his daughter's hand in marriage. The groom declared that he accepted the same. With this, the Nikah ceremony was over.

Moulavi Abdusalam Mongam delivered a sermon from his residence. Relatives and friends greeted the couple online. Groom's father M M Akbar, an Islamic scholar and orator, and bride's father Abdunnasar said that they intended to convey the message that Islamic weddings are simple and strong by bond as per the words of the Prophet.
