IPS officers become social media stars; Kerala Police overtakes New York Police in popularity

Thiruvananthapuram: Following the Kerala Police, which has emerged as one of the world’s most popular police forces on social media, several IPS officers are also becoming social media stars. Kerala Police has overtaken the New York Police Department (NYPD) to emerge as the most popular police force on social media. The Kerala Police has 23 lakh followers on Facebook and another 23 lakh on Instagram.

Several senior officers have also established themselves as social media influencers. Officers sharing celebration videos and public awareness content are receiving strong support from users. Ernakulam Range DIG Yathish Chandra has 1.15 lakh followers. His account, which features Onam celebrations and various police programmes, has around 160 posts.

ADGP P Vijayan, who is in charge of law and order, has 24,400 followers on Instagram. His posts, ranging from Student Police Cadet programmes and awareness classes to personal experiences, also receive considerable engagement.

DGP Manoj Abraham and officer Karthik are active on Facebook. Manoj Abraham has around 93,000 followers. The Kannur District Police Facebook page also has 46,500 followers.

Jail DGP S. Sreejith and Kasaragod District Police Chief P. Nidhinraj have also emerged as popular figures on Instagram.
