International Mother Language Day: This Kottayam teacher is reviving legacy of Malayalam

Karukachal: When the world celebrates International Mother Language Day to promote preservation and protection of all languages, a school in Kottayam Cheruvally  is reviving the legacy of Malayalam at its best. 

Thanks to KB Ajithkumar, Malayalam teacher of STM UP School. His love for Malayalam language is the reason why the literary works of legends like Vallathol Narayana Menon, Thunchaththu Ezhuthachan, Vaikom Muhammad Basheer and Edasseri Govindan Nair are resonating the walls of the school, thus transferring the legacy of language to young generation. Not just classical works but also the archaic Malayalam phrases which are in extinction are also recited for its revival. 

AjithKumar has been in the forefront for promoting the Malayalam language and has devised a set of programs to keep the process live. The students are introduced with books of masters like Prof. Panmana Ramachandran Nair.  He even released a book having collection of poems which have works of Changampuzha Krishna Pillai and the list stretches to Anil Panachooran, who passed way last year. Ajithkumar has organized scores of seminars and debates in the school and other libraries in and around. Another venture is the release of handwritten magazine at regular intervals in the school. The objective of the magazine is to imbibe Malayalam script and its writing style (orthography). 

Interest in reading is something which motivated Ajithkumar to be in pursuit of promoting Malayalam. It is the same interest which made him a Malayalam teacher. Since childhood Ajith developed interest in the language by sharing and expressing his perspective on the poem, short-stories and novels he reads.  During his school days he was part of many literary events and bagged Kalaprathibha repeatedly in 1988 and 1989.
