Thiruvananthapuram: Inspector General P Vijayan(in charge of the anti-terrorist squad), who was suspended over alleged leakage of information related to the transportation of the Elathur train arson attack case suspect, has been reinstated in the service.

The order reinstating Vijayan has been issued by Kerala Chief Minister. The development comes nearly six months after his suspension. However, reports say the internal probe against the official has not been called off.  Also, sources indicate that Vijayan will be appointed as the Inspector General of Police (Training).

He was suspended from service on May 18 based on a report submitted by ADGP M.R Ajith Kumar to the government. The report said that Vijayan contacted the police officers who were responsible for transporting the accused from Maharashtra to Kerala. As he was not part of the investigation team, this led to a security breach, the ADGP noted.

Meanwhile, there was a contention in the police over Vijayan’s suspension. While one faction aligned with the idea that personal enmity was behind Vijayan’s suspension, the others argued that it was a serious breach of discipline on his part.
