7 railway stations join Rs 1000 Cr revenue club; Thiruvananthapuram tops in Kerala

Seven railway stations in India have joined the '1,000 Crore Club' in terms of revenue generated, with New Delhi station leading the list. Chennai Central is the sole entrant from Southern Railway. This data is based on station-based passenger earning estimates for 2023-2024 conducted by the Railways.
New Delhi station reported annual revenue of Rs 3,337 crore, followed by Howrah with Rs 1,692 crore. Chennai Central earned Rs 1,299 crore.
Kerala also fares well
Eight railway stations in Kerala also performed well, increasing their revenue. Thiruvananthapuram leads in Kerala with a revenue of Rs 281.12 crore and recorded an impressive 1.31 crore passengers annually.
Number of passengers
Thane (Mumbai) tops the list in terms of passenger numbers, with 93.06 crore people travelling annually. Kalyan (Mumbai) station recorded 83.79 crore passengers, and New Delhi had 39.36 crore passengers.
A total of 28 stations in India fall under the Non-Suburban Group-I (NSG-1) category, which includes stations earning more than Rs 500 crore and having over 20 million footfalls. Of these 28 stations, the highest number—eight—belong to Central Railway, including Mumbai. Southern Railway has three stations—Chennai Central, Egmore, and Tambaram—in the group.
Not a single station from Kerala is included in the group. Six stations that were part of NSG-2 during 2017-2018 have been upgraded to NSG-1 this year.
