Chennai: All passenger and main line electrical multiple unit (MEMU) trains will conduct service as express trains from now on. The Indian Railways has taken a final decision in this regard. Though the train fare will be increased, the passengers are not going to get any new facilities. The trains will conduct services with unreserved coaches.

All the passenger trains that stopped service following Covid outbreak has not resumed yet. The decision to turn Passenger and MEMU trains as express trains was taken soon after the ticket concessions for various categories were removed.

The railway is trying to implement ways to increase the income without announcing a hike in train fare. Currently, it has been decided to drop all stops of passenger trains.

Meanwhile, the Southern Railways announced in November that all passenger and Memu trains will resume service within one month but all trains have not yet started service in Malabar region.
