Inaction against Rahul Mamkootathil: Congress councillor Sandhya resigns from Shoranur municipality

Shoranur: Congress municipal councillor in Shoranur C Sandhya has resigned from her post. She stepped down in protest against the stand taken by the Congress party with regard to MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, and also alleging that MP VK Sreekandan acted partisan in implementing development works. Sandhya handed over her resignation letter to the municipal chairperson on Wednesday evening. She has been a Congress councillor from the Anthimahakalan Chira ward for the past ten years.
There are strong protests within the party over party’s stance on the allegations raised against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. “This is a protest as a woman,” Sandhya said. She added that since she did not hold any official posts in the Congress, she could not voice her concerns in committees, but she had conveyed to leaders in person.
Sandhya also alleged that although MP VK Sreekandan had provided streetlights and high-mast lights across all wards in Shoranur, her ward was deliberately neglected. She said that she had raised the issue with block and mandalam presidents, but nothing was done.
However, MP VK Sreekandan said that Sandhya had never made such a request and said that personal reasons might be behind her resignation.
