IMD forecasts heavy rain in Kerala till Monday; 7 districts under Yellow Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on July 18 (Saturday) warned that isolated places across Kerala are very likely to receive heavy rainfall between July 18 (Saturday) and July 20 (Monday).

According to the IMD, heavy rain measuring between 7 cm and 11 cm in 24 hours is likely at isolated locations on July 18 (Saturday), July 19 (Sunday) and July 20 (Monday). Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are also expected at isolated places on July 18 (Saturday) and July 19 (Sunday).

Yellow Alert in several districts

The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for the following districts:

July 18 (Saturday): Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.

July 19 (Sunday): Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

July 20 (Monday): Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.

A Yellow Alert indicates the likelihood of heavy rainfall at isolated places, with expected rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

No holiday announced yet

As of now, no rain-related holiday has been announced for schools or colleges on July 20 (Monday) or the following days.

The weather situation remains dynamic, and the IMD may revise its forecasts as conditions develop. District administrations could announce holidays for educational institutions in areas affected by heavy rainfall, depending on local weather conditions.

Students and parents have been advised to rely only on official announcements issued by district collectors and educational institutions for updates on school holidays, class timings or any other changes.
