‘If pushed beyond limits, there will be a murder… you watch’: CPM MLA V Joy tells police, later clarifies

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM district secretary and MLA V Joy allegedly issued a threat to a police officer during the party’s march to the Secretariat. The remark was made in the presence of Cantonment Assistant Commissioner V Jayachandran.
“If I am pushed beyond limits because of him, I am saying this — there will be a murder… you watch,” V. Joy said. The video does not clearly capture what Joy says immediately after mentioning “murder”. The remark came amid CPM leaders shouting at and allegedly threatening police officers during the march.
The alleged threat was reportedly directed at Gokul, an SI at the Cantonment police station. CPM workers have been carrying out a widespread social media campaign against Gokul in connection with the lathi charge against SFI activists.
V. Joy made the remark in the presence of leaders including Kadakampally Surendran. However, Joy later clarified that he had not threatened to commit murder.
Joy said he had told the Assistant Commissioner that if children were beaten in such a brutal manner, they could die, and that this could result in a murder.
