Kannur: KPCC president K Sudhakaran gave an emotional speech at the memorial meeting of late Congress leader Kappadan Ramesan. Remembering him, Sudhakaran said Ramesan was the person who protected and supported him during some of the most difficult phases of his political life.

Holding back tears, he said that the fact he is alive today is because of Kappadan’s protection. “It may sound surprising to many, but it is the truth,” he said.

Sudhakaran, who usually speaks with great intensity in speeches against the CPM, struggled to find words this time as he recalled memories of his close associate. He pointed out that the party in Kannur was built through the invaluable service of many dedicated workers like Kappadan Ramesan. He also added that Ramesan was a leader who inspired party workers to move forward without bowing to any crisis.

Sudhakaran’s emotional speech is noticed by many in the current political context. Sudhakaran had recently expressed his interest in contesting from the Kannur Assembly constituency. The memorial meeting took place amid reports that he is unhappy over issues related to stepping down from the KPCC president’s post and the alleged failure to keep a promise of an Assembly seat.

A Facebook post shared by Sudhakaran regarding the matter had also triggered widespread discussion. As representatives of the party high command are expected to hold talks with him, Sudhakaran spoke emotionally at the event, recalling past struggles and those who stood with him.
