Thiruvananthapuram: In a fresh move, the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) has once again approached the state government seeking approval to deliver liquor to customers’ homes through online platforms.

According to sources, BEVCO’s proposal follows a market study and includes confirmation that Swiggy has expressed interest in the project.

Kerala has fewer than 500 BEVCO outlets, compared with more than 4,000 beverage shops in neighbouring states such as Tamil Nadu. Officials say this shortage is a major cause of crowding at existing outlets, and they believe online delivery could help ease congestion.

BEVCO has said that strict age verification would be implemented, with deliveries only to customers over 23 years old and ID checks required upon receipt.

BEVCO had previously put forward a similar proposal but was rejected by authorities.
