Kochi: The High Court has ordered the demolition of two towers in an apartment complex built for soldiers in Vytilla. The Court also directed the evacuation of residents from these towers. Towers B and C are to be demolished and rebuilt. The court's order came in response to a petition filed by residents who alleged that the flats were unsafe for living.

The court noted that the two towers had structural weaknesses, making it unsafe for residents to remain there. The Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AWHO) has been instructed by the court to demolish and rebuild the towers. A committee, led by the District Collector, is to be formed for this purpose. The court also directed that the new flats should have the same amenities and size as the existing ones.

According to the High Court's directive, the residents of the flats will be required to pay monthly rent until the construction of the new flats is completed. The rent will range between 21,000 and 23,000 rupees per month.

The two towers to be demolished are located in the 'Chandar Kunch' flat complex near Silver Sands Island in Vytilla. The complex consists of 264 apartments spread across three towers. These flats were built in 2018 for military personnel and retired military officers.
