Harshina’s strike: CM should intervene- V.M Sudheeran

Kozhikode: As it has been proved that Harshina’s demands are sincere and rightful, the Chief Minister should intervene to end her strike, Congress leader V.M Sudheeran said in a press conference. This is following a report submitted by the police naming two doctors and two nurses of the Kozhikode Medical College hospital as culprits in the case of medical negligence.
In this circumstance, there is no point in prolonging Harshina’s struggle based on a few technicalities. An appropriate compensation should be offered and legal action should be taken against the culprits, Sudheeeran added.
“As a former Health Minister, I can say that Kerala’s health sector is excellent. But Harshina’s experience is a stain on our exemplary sector” the Congress leader said.
“When Dr Vandana was attacked on duty, the country stood together in demanding safety for doctors. Legislation was also passed to prevent atrocities against doctors. Similarly, an error caused by doctor’s negligence should also be taken seriously. Patient safety also needs to be ensured. The crime committed should be brought before law, no matter the culprit. The victim should be given due compensation. Harshina’s experience of a pair of forceps being left in her stomach following surgery should not be repeated.”- V.M Sudheeran was quoted as saying.
