Haritha Keralam Mission owns remarkable feat by reviving 45,736 km rivulets

Thiruvananthapuram: The authorities of Haritha Keralam Mission said that 47,736 kilometre of rivulets in the state has been restored through the project ‘Ini Njan Ozhukatte’, which was commenced for the rejuvenation of natural water sources.

The natural flow of 412 kilometre length of rivers could be recovered through the mission with the participation of local self governing institutions.

Most of the revived rivulets are located in Thiruvananthapuram district. The works were carried out by women under the rural employment guarantee scheme.

Haritha Keralam Mission will now focus on restoration of water bodies in the Western Ghats. It aims to fend off landslides and mudslides by maintaining the natural flow of the streams here.
