Guruvayur temple to host 409 weddings on September 13; ceremonies to begin at 4 am

Thrissur: The Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple is set to witness a major rush of weddings on September 13, with 409 ceremonies already booked for the day, according to the Guruvayur Devaswom.

September 13 falls on the last Sunday of the Malayalam month of Chingam and is considered an auspicious day for weddings. The number of bookings is expected to rise further, as registrations will remain open until the eve of the ceremonies.

Weddings to begin at 4 am

The Devaswom, in coordination with the police, will make special arrangements to manage the expected rush and ensure the smooth conduct of wedding ceremonies and darshan.

Weddings will begin as early as 4 am to ensure that all ceremonies are completed on time. Six mandapams will be arranged for the thalikettu ceremony, while additional staff will be deployed at the venue.

A traditional musical ensemble will also be stationed near the wedding venue. The eastern entrance of the temple will be made completely one-way to regulate the movement of devotees and manage the expected crowd.

Extra security arrangements

Additional police personnel will be deployed inside and outside the temple and at various locations across Guruvayur town. Security arrangements will focus on crowd management and the safety of devotees.

The temple authorities will also ensure that CCTV cameras installed inside and outside the shrine and across the temple town remain operational. Security personnel will maintain round-the-clock surveillance.

The Devaswom said strict legal action would be taken against any anti-social activities detected in the area.

Devaswom chairman A V Gopinath and administrator S Harigopal appealed to devotees to cooperate with the authorities to ensure smooth darshan and the conduct of the wedding ceremonies.

Over 1.5 lakh devotees visited on Ashtami Rohini

More than 1.5 lakh devotees had visited the temple on the recent Ashtami Rohini day, Gopinath said.

Around 50,000 devotees also took part in the special prasada oottu (feast) organised on the occasion, according to the Devaswom.
