Guruvayur (Kerala): Jasmine prices across India have soared during the festive season, hitting markets hard in regions where the flower is widely used. Rising demand for weddings and religious celebrations has driven rates sharply higher.

In Kerala’s temple town of Guruvayur, the surge has been particularly pronounced. On Sunday, jasmine prices doubled to Rs 100 per ‘muzham’ (cubit) from Rs 50 last week. In some areas, sellers charged Rs 120 to Rs 150 per ‘muzham’ (cubit) , while tightly tied jasmine garlands fetched Rs 250 per ‘muzham’ (cubit) .

Local flower traders said the current rates translate to nearly Rs 5,000 per kilogram, marking one of the steepest recent increases in jasmine prices in the state.
