Kozhikode: The state government has issued the format for a declaration to be given by ration cardholders who have failed to receive Onam free kit despite approaching ration shops on Utharadam day before 8 pm. In the declaration, the cardholders should apprise that he/she failed to receive the free kit despite visiting ration shops on time. Further, the person should also obtain the signature of the Rationing inspector, Taluk supply officer and District supply officer in the declaration.

Earlier, several cardholders claimed they couldn't collect free Onam kits due to shortage and other reasons. Minister GR Anil directed ration shop owners to collect the contact details of people who havn't received food kits on Utharadam day.

However, it is still unclear when or how the free kits will be distributed to these ration cardholders. As per the latest reports, 25-30 free kits are lying idle in each ration shop across the state.
