Paravur: Police have launched a manhunt for a local resident identified in CCTV footage for intentionally removing fuses from electrical transformers in the Chief Minister’s constituency, Paravur. The incident has taken a sharp political turn, with the CPM alleging that the suspect is a local Congress worker.

The investigation was initiated after the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) filed an official complaint regarding deliberate power disruptions caused by fuse removal at the Kaitharam North transformer three weeks ago. Similar incidents of late-night fuse removals were also reported in Perumpadanna Ettiyodam and Ezhikkara Chakkathara Aavootty areas, leaving residents without electricity for hours.

CCTV evidence identifies suspect

Following the KSEB complaint, police reviewed local CCTV footage and recorded statements from local residents, successfully identifying a Kaitharam native as the individual behind the act.

However, when police raided his residence to detain him, the suspect allegedly managed to escape through the back door and is currently absconding.

CPM levels charges against Congress

CPM Paravur area secretary T V Nithin addressed the media, stating that the CCTV footage clearly identifies the suspect as a Congress activist.

Nithin alleged that the Congress had previously run campaign drives claiming the CPM was orchestrating power disruptions in the constituency. He said that the Congress worker's involvement has exposed these claims and alleged that the accused is being shielded from getting First Information Report (FIR) registered against him.

Meanwhile, police said that efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding suspect.
