Free Onam kits in Kerala from August 26: Only for Antyodaya and Annapoorna ration card holders

Thiruvananthapuram: The Food and Civil Supplies Department has clarified that free Onam kits will not be distributed to all ration card holders. The department stated that any information being spread to the contrary is not factually correct.

The government has decided to distribute free food kits only to those holding Antyodaya and Annapoorna ration cards.

Distribution will begin from August 26 through ration shops, according to the Department.

Who are Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries?

Antyodaya Anna Yojana cardholders are identified as the most vulnerable families among those living Below the Poverty Line (BPL).

Who is eligible for the Annapoorna Scheme?

Senior citizens aged 60 years or above, who belong to BPL households and have no assured means of subsistence, are eligible for the Annapoorna Scheme.
