Kannur: CPM district committee member and  DYFI former district president Manu Thomas has left the party as he decided not to renew his membership following his disagreement with the leadership. He has not been participating in the district committee meeting and other party meetings since April 13, 2023.

Though district leadership asked him to renew his membership on many occasions, he refused to do so because his complaints against a youth leader over gold smuggling were discarded by the leadership. Due to his reluctance to renew his membership, the CPM district committee has decided to fill the vacant spot with Alakkode area secretary Sajan Joseph. With this, Manu’s departure from the CPM has been officially confirmed.

Former Taliparamba block panchayat president, Manu Thomas had entered the party through SFI. Around an year ago, Manu had lodged a complaint with the district leadership regarding the connection of some of the youth leaders with gold smuggling gang. This complaint was discarded by the leadership as they termed it baseless.

“Since party has decided not to correct the mistakes, I am taking a decision to correct myself”, said Manu to Mathrubhumi.

Meanwhile, CPM district secretary MV Jayarajan has said that, the inclusion of new member to the district committee in place of Manu Thomas is only a natural process in line with the party constitution as Manu had not renewed his membership.
