‘Forced to conceive, then to abort’: New leaked audio lands Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in trouble again

Palakkad: Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil faces fresh trouble in the sexual misconduct case, as another audio clip and WhatsApp chat—said to involve him—have surfaced. The newly leaked material is reportedly a continuation of the earlier audio clip that triggered controversy and led to his suspension from the party. The release of the fresh audio comes shortly after Rahul became active again in the run-up to the local body elections.

The audio clip features a young woman alleging that Rahul Mamkootathil forced her to conceive and later pressured her into undergoing an abortion. She claims that Rahul insisted they should have a child and that the pressure came from him. In the clip, the man—said to be Rahul—can be heard responding to the woman in a dismissive and harsh manner. The accompanying WhatsApp chat also appears to show him expressing a desire for a child. However, the authenticity of the clip has not been confirmed.

Earlier, the Crime Branch registered a case based on the previously leaked audio clip and WhatsApp chats. The case was filed following an email complaint sent to the police headquarters by five individuals, all of whom were third parties. The woman involved had neither lodged a complaint nor given a statement. With her unwillingness to come forward, the investigation had reached a standstill.

Police had traced and located the woman during the earlier inquiry. Officers say that she had given a formal statement at the time, charges strong enough to arrest Rahul Mamkootathil. Allegations were raised then that Rahul had given certain assurances, which reportedly led to the woman withholding her statement. It remains unclear what prompted the latest leak—whether earlier assurances were violated or whether the material was released by someone else without the consent of either party.

Based on the leaked audio, the man in the recording appears to have committed a serious offence against the woman. If she now chooses to give a statement and if the voice is proven to be that of Rahul Mamkootathil, he could face severe legal consequences, alongside huge political backlash.
