‘Filthy smear campaign’: Former Kerala minister PK Sreemathi weeps before media, vows legal action

CPM leader and former minister P K Sreemathi has alleged that a targeted fake news campaign is being waged against her across online platforms. She clarified that formal complaints will be lodged against the online portals, satellite channels and newspaper responsible for spreading the misinformation. The former minister broke down in tears before the media while speaking about the character assassination directed at her.

The misinformation campaign falsely alleges that Sreemathi poses as the wife of a former MLA named P R Krishnan to draw a family pension meant for former legislators. Describing the claim as utterly false and completely baseless, she stated that the report was crafted in a believable yet highly malicious manner. Sreemathi added that she has been serving the public for 50 years and expressed dismay that no one bothered to contact her to verify the facts before publishing such stories.
 

"Look at how filthy this smear campaign is. The news was carried by Janam TV, Karma News, Bharath Live and ‘Sudinam’, an evening daily from Kannur district. I gathered the required evidence two days ago and handed it over to my advocate to initiate legal proceedings. These stories are being circulated with the sole intent of defaming a woman leader in public life. I have frequently been targeted with such fabricated news," Sreemathi said.
