Farook College urges tribunal to declare Munambam land as non-Waqf property

Kochi: Farook College has asserted that the Munambam land is not Waqf property and has demanded an official declaration to that effect. The college has contested the ownership claims of the descendants of Sattar Seth and Siddique Seth, who allege the land is Waqf property. Farook College, in its submission to the Waqf Tribunal, argued that the land was leased by the erstwhile Travancore King and not granted as Waqf property.
Farook College also requested that the Waqf Protection Committee not be made a party to the dispute over the Munambam land.
The tribunal questioned Siddique Seth's descendants about whether they possess documents proving the land was leased by the Travancore King in 1902. In response, they stated that the land was granted as a royal gift and that they have legally registered documents to substantiate their claim. They also informed the tribunal that these documents are in their possession.
The tribunal has postponed the case to January 25 to examine additional documents related to the Munambam land dispute.
Farook College had earlier clarified before the Judicial Commission that the Munambam land is not Waqf property, but was received as a royal gift. Therefore, the college claims full authority to sell the land if needed. It reiterated that the land was granted to them as a royal gift, providing them with complete rights to its sale or transfer.
