Alappuzha: The Employees' State Insurance Scheme (ESIC) has asked beneficiaries to link their Insured Person (IP) number with their Aadhaar cards. The authentication process will be based on OTP verification. The linking is also applicable for the beneficiaries' family members included in the ESI cards.

Beneficiaries can link their IP number with their Aadhaar cards through the ESI portal on their own. In addition, the service is also available at ESI offices and dispensaries.

The move is aimed at availing Aadhaar biometric details to identify the beneficiaries and their dependents and provide benefits only to the eligible ones. Even if an employee joins a new organisation, new ESI number won't be required. It will also help in receiving Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) number.

At present, medical reimbursement is granted on receipt of a certificate that the ESI beneficiary is not availing of the benefits of any other insurance schemes.
