Kochi, Kerala: As part of the railway station development, a passenger holding area will be set up at Ernakulam South Railway Station.

The holding area will provide passengers with basic facilities such as seating, drinking water, toilets, ticketing, information displays, and security checks. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed this in response to a question from MP Hibi Eden in the Lok Sabha regarding station development.

The minister said these facilities aim to better manage the large number of passengers during peak hours, and the project is currently in the planning stage.

The passenger holding area at New Delhi Railway Station has significantly helped reduce congestion and improve travel convenience, and the same model is intended to be implemented in Kochi.

At Ernakulam South, foundation work for the Eastern Terminal building, multi-level car parking, and service building has been completed.
