Kochi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against former minister and Tripunithura MLA K. Babu in a case related to the accumulation of disproportionate assets. The chargesheet was submitted at the PMLA court in Kaloor. However, details of the charge sheet have not been disclosed.

Earlier, the ED had summoned K. Babu to its Kochi office for interrogation regarding the case and had also attached assets worth ₹25.82 lakh. The action was taken based on findings that he had illegally acquired assets between July 2007 and May 2016. K. Babu served as the Excise Minister of Kerala from 2011 to 2016.

Initially, it was the Vigilance Department that had investigated the case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Vigilance had filed a charge sheet stating that K. Babu possessed assets worth ₹25.82 lakh beyond his known sources of income. It was based on this charge sheet that the ED also initiated action against him.
