Elephant herd destroys car in Athirappilly; passengers unharmed

Thrissur, Kerala: A herd of elephants in the Athirappilly region damaged a car after it broke down on the roadside, officials said.
The car, belonging to Angamaly resident, had been parked on the roadside after a mechanical breakdown.
When the owner and others returned to fix the problem, they found the vehicle damaged by the elephants. The passengers had to continue their journey in a different vehicle.
A similar incident occurred in the same area last week, when an elephant damaged a van that had been parked by the roadside after its engine failed. Fortunately, no one was inside the vehicle at the time of the attack.
Elephant activity has become increasingly intense in the region in recent times. The area, home to many tribal communities, relies heavily on forest resources for its livelihood. Last year, a woman named Valsa, who had gone into the forest to collect firewood, was killed in an elephant attack.
