Heatstroke claims life of Palakkad woman; Alert in 3 districts

Palakkad: A woman, identified as Lakshmi (90) from Elappully, has tragically succumbed to heatstroke. Postmortem examination has confirmed heatstroke as the cause of death.

Lakshmi was found lying in a canal on Saturday evening. Despite being swiftly taken to the hospital, she was pronounced dead. Though her body exhibited signs of burns, the precise cause of death remained uncertain until the post-mortem was conducted. Lakshmi was known to live alone.

This unfortunate incident occurs amidst severe heat prevailing in Kerala. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a maximum temperature warning for 12 districts over the next five days. In Kollam, Palakkad, and Thrissur districts, certain areas may experience a heatwave, according to both the IMD and the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority.

These districts are forecasted to endure hot and humid conditions, except for hilly areas, from April 28th to May 2nd, owing to elevated temperatures and humidity levels. Additionally, there is a likelihood of heatwave conditions occurring in one or two locations within the Kollam, Palakkad, and Thrissur districts specifically on April 28th and 29th.
