A terrifying incident unfolded again in Kannur on Tuesday where an elderly man lost his life due to a bomb blast. The incident occurred this afternoon when Aayinatt Velayudhan (80) unwittingly brought a bomb to his house after collecting coconut and other items from the road.

Upon opening the bomb, it exploded and killed him. His body has been shifted to Kannur Taluk Hospital. Thalassery police has launched an investigation in this matter.

This tragic incident is not an isolated one in Kannur. Six months ago, a scrap worker also got injured in a similar manner. The district has experienced multiple recent instances of violence, including a bomb attack on the RSS office in Payyannur and the house of a Kannur native. A CPM worker had lost his life as a bomb exploded while a group was allegedly making bombs at Panur during the election days. Though CPM had denied any connections with the incident, the participation of local CPM leaders during the funeral function had caused suspicions regarding the party's connection with the incident.

While the government ordered investigations into bomb manufacturing locations, no such investigation has been carried out yet.
