Thiruvananthapuram: An incident involving Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) employees arriving drunk for night duty has sparked controversy at Ayiroor here. The employees, who reached a local resident’s house to address a fire hazard in an inebriated condition, were taken into custody by the police later.

The trouble began when neighbours noticed flames originating from the service cable while Rajeev's family was preparing to sleep on Saturday night. The family contacted KSEB at around 11 pm for immediate assistance. However, they KSEB employees advised the family to call the Fire Force.

Eventually, KSEB personnel arrived on the scene, but locals alleged that the employees were in inebriated condition and indifferent to safety concerns. It is learned that those who questioned their conduct were met with verbal abuse.

The house owner, Rajeev, then informed the police about the incident following which the police took them into custody.

The Ayiroor Circle Inspector intervened by disconnecting electricity in the area for safety reasons.

Despite the incident gaining public attention, KSEB did not restore power to Rajeev's house even after 24 hours. Rajeev claimed that KSEB insisted on withdrawing the complaint before reconnecting the electricity.

Following media coverage, KSEB issued a statement promising immediate restoration of electricity services. However, Rajeev's residence remains without power. KSEB has also lodged a complaint against Rajeev, accusing him of obstructing their official duties.
