Thiruvananthapuram: The women farmers of the Kudumbashree will now turn real smart by equipping themselves with the latest technology. Going ahead, they will use drones for sowing seeds, spraying fertilisers and for monitoring the growth of the crops. The use of such technologies are expected to reduce physical challenges involved in farming. It will help farmers save time as well. Drones have been handed over to 50 women farmers so far.

Modernising the agriculture sector will help improve production rates, creating more jobs ultimately. It will also improve the incomes of the farmers.

The women farmers will be trained on how to use drones.

K S Bindu, the Kudumbashree Executive Director in-charge, will inaugurate a four-day long training camp at the Sreekaryam Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) for the purpose, on 13th of May.

The instructions will be given by experts from ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research), CTCRI (Central Tuber Crops Research Institute) and FACT (Fertilisers And Chemicals Travancore Limited).

Farmers will also be given tips on the safety precautions to be adopted while using drones. In the classes, they will also be trained in matters concerning the environment, use of fertilisers and safety measures for crop maintenance etc during the field-level classes.
