New Delhi: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday informed Parliament that the Central government has initiated the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for expanding the entire railway network in Kerala, aiming to significantly boost rail capacity across the state.

Responding to a query raised by an Opposition MP, Vaishnaw said, “I would like to say how our government is basically trying to increase the capacity of the railway network in Kerala. Congress, which ruled this country for 60 years, what was the work which was done in Kerala? Introduction of new trains basically requires increased capacity of railway tracks.”

He further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, DPRs have been taken up for several key third and fourth-line railway projects across the state. These include:

  • Shoranur to Ernakulam (3rd line)
  • Ernakulam to Kayamkulam (3rd line)
  • Kayamkulam to Thiruvananthapuram (3rd line)
  • Thiruvananthapuram to Nagercoil (3rd line)
  • Shoranur to Mangaluru (3rd and 4th lines)
  • Shoranur to Coimbatore (3rd and 4th lines)
