Sathyabhama stands by her comments

Thrissur: Kalamandalam Sathyabhama stands by her casteist slur made against Mohiniyattam actor, inferred as R L V Ramakrishnan. The statement sparked off a controversy and protests brewed up  as many people have come out lashing out against the danseuse. 

RLV Ramakrishnan himself has responded to the comments through a facebook post saying that, he would bring her to justice.  

Speaking to reporters, Sathyabhama says that she stands by her comments made in the controversial interview. “What I said was my opinion. If Mohiniyattam is performed by men, they should look handsome. If people who have darker complexions learn dance, let them perform at temples or other places. They should not participate in stage competitions. The competitions are judged on the basis of beauty too. Most dancers are now participating in competitions with heavy make up on their faces.

‘The police and court require evidence in the case of making casteist statements. It matters only if the name of the person is mentioned. I have no remorse or regret in the statements I have made. I will respond to problems related to my field of art’, Sathyabhama said. 

When asked whether sexism and colourism is appropriate to the identity of an artist, “how come it is not appropriate?” responded Sathyabhama. “This profession, unlike yours, requires beauty as a parameter,” she told the reporters.
