Thiruvananthapuram: A PG doctor on duty at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital was allegedly assaulted by a patient’s husband on Monday night.

The incident happened around 11:20 PM in the ward, following a dispute over replacing a cannula for an injection.

The accused, Reynold (59), a native of Cherumoodu in Perinad, Kollam, reportedly created a commotion, accusing staff of delaying the procedure. When the PG doctor arrived to address the issue, Reynold forcefully removed the doctor's face mask and allegedly assaulted him.

Following the incident, hospital staff intervened and handed Reynold over to security personnel. He was later taken into police custody, presented before the court, and remanded for 14 days of judicial custody.

The patient was shifted to the MICU after Reynold’s arrest. In protest against the incident, PG doctors will hold a demonstration on Wednesday.

Doctors have raised serious concerns about the lack of security at the hospital, claiming there are neither enough security personnel nor functional CCTV systems to ensure their safety.
